"Every Student Will Be Equipped with Skills to Thrive in the 21st-Century Economy," Declares Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi at CII School Education Conclave 2024 State to Establish Dedicated Assessment Agency to Enhance Learning Quality
Chennai, 10th December 2024: "Our vision is to equip every student in Tamil Nadu with the skills necessary to thrive in the 21st-century economy. The state has made progressive strides in education, including achieving a 50% gross enrolment ratio in higher education and initiatives to bolster skill development and educational infrastructure," said Thiru Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Hon'ble Minister for School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu at the CII School Education Conclave 2024, themed "Empowering Students with 21st Century Skills for the Indian Context,".
"The Government has also initiated the establishment of a state-specific assessment agency that is designed to provide accurate evaluations of educational outcomes, address local challenges and generate actionable insights to enhance learning quality. Also, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft will introduce artificial intelligence (AI) tools into classrooms helping educators with cutting-edge teaching methodologies and preparing students with future-ready skills, ensuring the state remains at the forefront of educational innovation," he added.
"Stressing the importance of rationalism in education, the Minister advocated for a curriculum that nurtures critical thinking, innovation, and adaptability. He also underscored the need for regular teacher training to stay abreast of industry trends, ensuring that Tamil Nadu continues to set benchmarks in educational excellence,".
The Hon'ble Minister also commended Tamil Nadu's leadership in education, highlighting flagship programs such as the Nan Mudalvan and Pudumai Pen schemes aimed at skill enhancement and equity.
Dr G V Selvam, Chairman, CII SR Taskforce on Education & Vice President, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) stressed on the critical role of industry-academia collaboration in preparing students for future careers, highlighting the need for skill-oriented curriculum reforms and stronger linkages between schools and businesses to align education with workforce requirements.
There were panel discussions on Beyond Academics: Nurturing 21st Century Competencies across Boards, Bridging the Gap: Aligning School Curriculums with Industry Needs, Empowering Educators: Professional Development for Teaching 21st Century Skills and Towards a Visionary Future: Reflecting on Skills-Based Education in India.
