Sebi Keen to Introduce Fractional Ownership in India
1. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is considering the introduction of fractional ownership in the Indian stock market, allowing investors to buy fractions of high-priced shares.
2. Fractional ownership, already permitted in the US, would enable investors to purchase smaller portions of expensive shares, making them more accessible to retail investors.
3. Indian companies like MRF, Page Industries, Honeywell Automation India, Shree Cement, Abbott India, and Nestle India have shares with high individual prices, making full ownership costly for many investors.
4. Sebi Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch mentioned that implementing fractional ownership would require changes in both the Sebi Act and the Companies Act.
