Reticon 2017, a national conference on vitreo retina
disorder management begins today in Chennai

inaugurates the one day Conference
Chennai, April 23, 2017:
With the aim of providing eye care practitioners a platform to
acquire knowledge about the latest advancements in the management of retinal
disorders, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital today hosted RETICON-2017. A national
level conference on vitreo retina management was inaugurated by Thiru K.A
Sengottiyan, Honourable Minister for School Education, Sports & Youth Welfare,
Government of Tamil Nadu in the presence of Prof. Amar Agarwal, Chairman &
Managing Director, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital and Program Director – RETICON 2017.
Now in its 7th year, the conference will witness
doctors sharing best practices, research and innovations in the field of vitreo
retina disorder management. Around 300- 400 doctors from across the country are
expected to participate in the confluence.
The one day event will witness scientific presentation, discussion
on a multitude of topics ranging from cataract to retinopathy of prematurity, macular
surgeries made simple with 27 G vitrectomy, management of coexisting cataract
with diabetic retinopathy, retinal Detachment in CMV Retinitis etc. The conference will also have presentations by Dr. Rahul Khurana, Partner,
Northern California Retina Vitreous Associates, Mt. View, CA, USA, Associate
Professor of Ophthalmology, University of San Francisco, CA, San Francisco, CA,
USA and Editor in Chief, American Academy of Ophthalmology Ophthalmic News and
Education (ONE) Network on retinal disorder management.
Further, the conference will also have an interesting competition
called Ophthalmic Premier League (OPL), wherein 4 teams of surgeon; each team
of 4 members will present their interesting and challenging surgical videos
which are judged by the referees and winning team is recognized with a trophy.

Anterior Segment Eye Transplant Surgery was performed on a 4 month old child to
treat corneal disorder. In November 2013, for the first time in the World, Dr.
Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Chennai transplanted a one year old donor cornea giving
a new lease of sight to a 60 year old man through the new technique PDEK (Pre
Descemet’s Endothelial Keratoplasty).
