Four day event showcases product from Natural Stones industry
Federation of Indian Granite and Stone Industry will be organizing “STONA 2016 Fair, one of the largest international stone exhibitions from 03 - 06 February 2016 at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bangalore.

STONA 2016 Fair is the 12th International Granites and Stone Fair - an exhibition showcasing the unique range of country’s colorful, eye-catching natural stones and provides a platform that helps in demonstrating the capabilities, capacity and the most modern and latest techniques in the craft of stone workings. The Natural Stone Industries, which come under the category of Ornamental or Decorative building stones like Granites, Marbles, Sandstones, Slates, Quartzite etc., and ancillary and auxiliary Industries of Machinery, Tools, Consumables related to Stone Industries will be participating in the conference.
The aim of STONA 2016 Fair is to give the natural stone industry in India a significant growth opportunity with higher visibility, a professional oriented visitor profile and extremely efficient business development modules. Delegates from India, Brazil, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, Egypt, China, Taiwan, Korea and a host of other countries have been participating in large numbers as STONA. This provides enormous business opportunities and also opens a window to new trends in the natural stone sector. Over 600 exhibitors, diverse seminars and more than 10,000 visitors each day of the event is what STONA will have on offer. Besides the highlight of STONA 2016 will be - Shilpgram, showcasing the skill of Indian artisans who will exhibit their skill before the international visitors

Speaking on the occasion Sri R. Sekar, President -Federation of Indian Granite and Stone Industry (FIGSI) said, “The STONA fair has been recognised all over the world.  STONA has become a brand name in the world and it has become a very powerful platform for the Indian Industry to market the Indian stone internationally.”


The export value of Indian stone trade is around 2 billion which is 2% of the World trade which is around more than 100 billion US$. 

In India the following states are well established in the dimensional blocks production, quarrying with most modern technology system in a scientific manner with environment friendly practices.  Also with processing  units.

Karnataka                              Madhya Pradesh

Out of the above states Telangana and Rajasthan follow an industry friendly policy.

About 15 lakh people are employed in the mining / quarrying operations in the country.

India is exporting to more than 90 countries.

India is also importing from other countries for process and re export.

Federation recommends Open General licence for import of granite blocks.

Imports from other countries necessitated since, there is a shortage of raw material due to non – grant of fresh leases and non renewal of existing leases. 

Karnataka from 1st position has gone down to 5th position in term of production.   
According to Sri Ishwinder Singh, Chairman- STONA 2016, “Platforms such as the STONA 2016 FAIR act as booster shots for the Granite and Stone Industry. STONA Fair provides a great platform to understand the global trends and to project India's natural stones, products & the creative ability to make and supply exquisite products from variety of stones. This fair will create business avenues for visitors and the exhibitors and act as a catalyst for the growth of Indian stone and granite industry.”

Chief objective of the Federation of Indian Granite & Stones Industry (FIGSI) is to Promote the Natural Stone Industries, which come under the category of Ornamental or Decorative building stones like Granite, Marble, Sandstone, Slate, Quartzite etc., and ancillary and auxiliary Industries of Machinery, Tools, Abrasives, Consumables related to Stone Industries and conduct Conferences, Workshops on each and every aspect of Stone Industry.

FIGSI is in the process of establishing R & D Training Center for the benefit of the Indian Natural Stone industry and as a first step has already purchased an area of about 32 acres near Hosur. The Federation is working hard to make this training center as world class institute with all the latest technology and facility
