Famous Central Finance Ministers:
* Mr. Jawaharlal Lal Nehru was the
first Prime Minister to present the Union budget as he held the
finance minister portfolio in 1958-59.
* The maximum number of Union Budgets has been
presented by Mr. Morarji Desai. He presented budget Ten (10) times.
* Mr. Morarji Desai presented two Union budgets on his
Birthday on February 29.
* Mr. R Venkataraman is the
first finance minister of India who later also served as the President of India
from 1987-92. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee is second.
* Mr. Jawaharlal Lal Nehru, Mr. Indira Gandhi and Mr. Rajiv Gandhi
have presented the Union budget while serving as the Prime Minister of India.
* Indira Gandhi has been the only woman Finance Minister in 1970-71.
* Mr. Jaswant Singh had the shortest tenure as finance
minister – only for 13 days!
