Universal
Sompo General Insurance Company Ltd., a joint venture of Allahabad Bank, Indian
Overseas Bank, Karnataka Bank Ltd, Dabur Investment Corporation and Sompo Japan
Nipponka, is taking several steps to ease the process of registering and settling of
claims from customers affected by the recent Chennai floods in Tamil Nadu. The
company has decided to provide ‘Cashless Service’ to its motor customer base
from Chennai and Puducherry, who have been affected by devastating floods in
their respective region.
The company has empowered customers to undertake
repairs of their affected vehicles at any garages in the city to avail Cashless
Service based on the surveyors report and submission of minimal documentation –
Original Invoice Copy and Copy of the Registration Certificate (RC).
The garages under the ‘Cashless Network’ of
the company, will be asked to commence repairs on the damaged vehicle based on
the surveyors report. As part of the customer outreach activity, the
company is providing free Towing services to its customers for vehicle pick-up
from the affected location to be taken to the nearest network garage for
flushing out the water and drying the engine and mechanical parts and also to
avoid complete engine failure due to water ingression in the engine.

cashless services for motor repairs, thus ensuring that we are able to bring
back normalcy in their life after such a devastating event. With communications
slowly being restored in some parts of the city, our staff is reaching out to
customers to assist them in all possible manner and alert them about the
possibility of water borne diseases surfacing if precautions are not taken.”
For customers who have suffered damages to
Property and Stocks, the company has formed a core Task Force Team, comprising
of Zonal Head and overviewed by Head of Claims, to expedite the process of
inspection and assisting in claim process. Constant monitoring of the activity
is being undertaken from the Corporate Office of Universal Sompo in Mumbai, to
ensure quick settlement of claims and to bring back business continuity.
The
company has tied up with surveyors from the affected state and also from other
parts of India to ensure that surveys are conducted immediately. Claims
resources in Chennai have been augmented to handle the claims proactively.
Usually with flood calamities of such
magnitude, there is not only damage to assets such as vehicle and property; it
also gives rise to health diseases among affected residents due to water borne
diseases. Early precautions and awareness to keep such diseases distant, will
