Celebrating the Harmony of Life, Nature and Skills in Artisanal Weaving and Crafts

 Hast Karigar Society, Delhi is going to present Impressions – an exhibition-cum-sale celebrating the Harmony of Life, Nature and Skills in Artisanal Weaving and Crafts, from  September 15 to 20, 2015 from 11 am to 7 pm daily, at the Lalit Kala Akademi,  Greams Road, Chennai

Traditional artists, jewellery makers, handloom weavers, craftspeople and hand block printers from all over India will participate in this exhibition expressing their skills weaved in motifs and symbols. 

This is the seventh year running, where Hast Karigar Society is bringing together its artisan members in Chennai for its annual exhibition.

This year’s exhibition will highlight a collection of hand woven cotton, tussar and silk, khadi sarees, dupatta, stoles and fabrics from Benaras, Bhagalpur, Chanderi, Maheswar, Phulia, Sambalpur, Phalodi, Machilipatnam, Srikakulam, Kota and Chilapata forests of West Bengal.

Laheria, Batik, Shibori, Kalamkari and Tie and Dye using vegetable and natural colours will be added attractions this year.
Sanghaner, Bagru, Dabu, Ajrak, Aakola and Machilipatnam hand block prints on sarees, dupattas, stoles, fabric and home furnishings will combine traditional shades of colours with a fusion of intricately cut traditional and contemporary designs and patterns.
Presence of Pattachitra, Miniature art, Gond and Madhubani painting will add style and colour to the exhibition.
Kantha and Desert embroidery, Chikan and Applique will showcase the skill of deft hands of our women artisans.
Unique collection of hand crafted Lambani jewellery, Filigree, and Patwa jewellery from Kaladera, baskets and kitchen ware of bamboo, wood, sabai grass, cocoanut shell, bags and gift items from beads, paper stationery wrapped in block print, pottery, mat, copper bells, pastel work, and leather puppets will be colourful and a joy to look at and buy. 


Hast Karigar Society is also inviting the connoisseurs, the interested, and the school children and youth to participate in lively interactions with traditional artists and hand block printers to learn and understand our heritage – traditional art and craft. 

This interface with artisans where they will also demonstrate their skills at the exhibition venue from 12 pm to 2 pm daily from September 15 to September 19, 2015. The interface and demonstration will be led by National and State Awardees and Shilpa Guru.
