Constructing a building perfectly is not an easy
task, more so when it is a big project.
And making that process easier by cutting down
human errors through virtual models is what city-based firm Arth Designbuild
India Pvt. Ltd is doing, using the Building Information Modelling (BIM)
software for its work.
BIM, as it is known, is a software that creates
three dimensional (3D) models of buildings, detailing every single aspect of a
given project. And 28-year-old Swapnil Sahu, who is one of the four IIT
graduates running the firm, thinks that the software is the future of the
construction in India.
“It is a parametric modelling software, which
cuts out lot of human errors from the end product,” he explains.
“Human errors are widely accepted in the
construction, which is usually between 5% to 10%. What this means is that some
money is kept in contingency for that,” points out Swapnil. His point, however,
is this: what if we could do away with this error, and maybe spend that 10 per
cent more on the project itself to cut down lifelong costs of the building?
“And that is what BIM basically does, it
visualises everything and comes up with a detailed plan. In India we don’t keep
in mind lifelong costs of maintenance and other problems that come up in the
long run,” says Swapnil.
Presently, Arth Designbuild India Pvt Ltd takes
up projects from start-ups and also gets work from the US, UK and other
countries.
