Launching of ‘Selvamagal
Semipu Account’ at Mylapore HPO, Chennai
The Government of India (GOI) has recently introduced a new small savings
scheme through India Post called ‘Sukanya Samriddhi Account’ for the welfare of
girl child. The new Scheme was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of
India.
Mr. Mervin Alexander, Postmaster General, Chennai City Region,
launched the Scheme at Mylapore HPO, Chennai on 30.01.2015 and the name of the
account is coined as Selvamagal Semipu Account (செல்வமகள் சேமிப்பு கணக்கு).
The salient features of the scheme are ..!
v Accounts can be
opened in the name of girl children upto the age of 10 (TEN) years through
natural or legal guardian.
v Minimum amount for opening of account is
Rs.1,000
v Subsequent deposits should be in multiple
of Rs.100
v Maximum amount which can be deposited in a
financial year is
Rs. 1,50,000
v Deposit may be made till completion of 14
years from the date of opening.
v Rate of interest for the year 2014-15 is
9.1%.
v There is no limit on no. of deposits either
in a month or / in a financial year.
v Partial withdrawal upto maximum 50% of the balance standing at the end of the
preceding financial year can be taken on the
Account holder attaining the age of 18 years for higher education
and marriage
v Nomination is not allowed.
v Account can be closed after completion of
21 years from the date of opening.
v Facility of payment of interest on monthly
basis if opted for.
To
avail the benefits general public may approach the nearest Post office to open
Selvamagal Semipu Account.
