IN SELECT DISTRICTS OF TAMIL NADU

Consumers Association of India (CAI) was entrusted this
pilot program to take the message of “Jago
Grahak Jago” to the maximum grass root level through students of high
and higher secondary education.
Smt
Kalyanai Rajaraman was appointed as the Project Director.
This pilot program was conducted in 8 districts
distributed in 4 regions of Tamil Nadu
Region Districts

South Tirunelveli, Madurai
The following contests were planned among the students
of 8th, 9th and 11th standards studying in
Government and Other Schools in the above 8 districts.
Four different contests were conducted with the following
titles

The medium of contest was Tamil .
Eight coordinators and four Nodal officers were
appointed to monitor the progress of the
programs in detail.
Intimation letters were addressed to all schools in 8
Districts through post and in person.
The coordinators in consultation with officials of
education department at districts, arranged for school level contests and each
school nominated one winner to represent their school in each category
of contest. All the winners from
the school were directed to meet in
groups at a selected school to participate in the taluk level selection.
ELOCUTION CONTEST
This elocution contest was included not only to hunt
the talents of students but also to provoke the thought that consumers have
rights as well as responsibilities in their day to day life. Hence, the core
theme of the title “Jago Grahak Jago” was brought out in the form of a real
life incident during the oration.
A success story of an informed consumer on the deficiency
of a product or service was recommended to be
the topic for oratorical contest.
DRAWING CONTEST
One of the rights of the consumers was “Right to Safe
Environment”. It gained significance in today’s life, since Air, water and land
are polluted by human activities, which lead to increase in Non Communicable
Diseases. Most of the pollution could have been avoided if all the consumers
felt the social responsibility vested and expected from them. Hence prevention
of air pollution was allotted for drawing contest. Best drawings are displayed
for views observation.
ESSAY
WRITING
Now most of the cities and even
villages face shortage of drinking water. Population explosion, failure of
monsoon, disputes in water sharing,
irrational use of available water etc., resulted in water shortage. It is high time that all students must be made to
understand the need to conserve and keep
water free from contamination. Students
were directed to write an essay of safe drinking water.
SPECIAL DRAWING
CONTEST ON THE TITLE – CLEAN INDIA
This contest was included to high light the Prime
Minister’s Clean India Campaign at student’s level.
Some of the best drawings outlined by students are
displayed for observation by all.
