4 Day B2B Engineering Expo in Chennai
To focus on manufacturing excellence..!
The 7th Edition of the four day B2B ‘Engineering Expo’ was inaugurated at the Chennai Trade Centre by Mr. R Ekambaram, Additional Director, Industries & Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu, Mr. V Arumugam, Zonal General Manager, National Small Industries Corporation, Mr. G. Edwin, SME Head - South Geography, Axis Bank and Mr. Sudhanva Jategaonkar, Associate Vice President, Network 18.
This B2B Exhibition is focused on the SME sector and will serve as a business enabling platform for the latest technology and products in automotive, engineering, manufacturing and automation. The public are welcome and the entry is free from 3pm to 7pm.
The Expo is on till 23rdNovember 2014. Over 100 SMEs from engineering and manufacturing sector are participating and will display their products and services across 4,000 square metres, displaying between 6,000 to 8,000 products.

Mr. Sandeep Khosla, CEO, Network 18 Publishing, the organizer of this four day expo said “Chennai is the Detroit of India, thanks to the well-established presence of the automobile and ancillary units in and around the city and all over Tamil Nadu. The SME cluster in Chennai plays a critical role as vendors to the automotive units spread over Tamil Nadu. This is the time to collaborate and enable knowledge-sharing among the SMEs, which is timely and appropriate.” In last 10 years the number of MSME units has gone up from 25,800 to 83,300 with investment soaring to Rs 8,752 cr. from Rs 722 Cr in 2004.
Mr. R Ekambaram, Additional Director, Industries & Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu, said “The Tamilnadu government introduced in 2012 ‘New Entrepreneur Cum Enterprise Development (NEED)’ to motivate first generation entrepreneurs. The mission is to create 1000 young first generation entrepreneurs every year. It is an appreciable thought that corporates are also interested in promoting the SMEs by providing them a platform like Engineering Expo”
Mr. V. Arumugam, Zonal General Manager, National Small Industries Corporation, said “the primary and secondary sector should progress, to develop the economy and SMEs play an important role in developing the manufacturing sector. It is very important to encourage the SMEs and provide them a better platform to exhibit their new ideas.”
Mr. G. Edwin, SME Head - South Geography, Axis Bank, who are also the title sponsor of the event said “We have allocated 57% of our total loan for SMEs and out of which 34% is utilized from South India. Loans for SMEs from Tamil Nadu amounts to Rs. 5000 Cr. Therefore, the talent quotient in Tamilnadu is very abundant and we need to provide them better opportunities to explore”
The various categories of display include Machine Tools & Accessories, Hydraulics & Pneumatics, Instrumentation, L ight & Medium Industries, Automation, Electrical & Electronics, Material Handling Equipment, and Process Plant Machinery & Equipment, etc.
Talking about the expo, Mr. Sudhanva Jategaonkar, Associate Vice President, Network 18, said “Started in 2002, the expo serves as a platform for SMEs to display their products as well as latest technologies that could help develop their business. Previously, the show generated business enquiries to the tune of Rs. 600 Cr across the country. This year it is expected to touch Rs. 800 Cr.”
