WHAT IS DESIGN
THINKING?
Most Indians first
heard the word `Design Thinking' around mid-August (2014) when the
newly-appointed CEO of Infosys Mr. Vishal Sikka got 20 of his senior troops an
insight into `design thinking' at Stanford University.
Over the next 2
months, Infosys strengthened its partnership with the D-school at Sikka's alma
mater, to enable the Bangalore-based company implement this creative,
user centred approach to problem solving.
ET explains what
Design Thinking is:
Although there is no
single definition of design thinking, it is generally understood to involve a
creative and systematic approach to problem solving by placing the user at the
centre of the experience.
Using this approach,
people innovate using simple products to seek feedback unlike the traditional
approach where companies rely on products that are already in development.
Unlike the
traditional analytical approaches of solving problems that greatly rely on past
experiences, Design Thinking is a style of thinking that combines empathy for
users, imagination in the context of a problem, creativity in the generation of
ideas and a rapid experimental approach to assessing the quality of solutions.
