It’s
a known fact that the way your home smells can have an effect on your mood
& positivity.
There
are a variety of fragrances that you can choose from -
1.
Floral (Rose and jasmine),
2.
Oriental (Cinnamon and clove),
3.
Chipre (Moss and citrus),
4.
Green (Outdoorsy),
5.
Oceanic (Hints of spice and citrus) or
6.
woodsy (Pine, cedar, sandalwood).
Here
are a few options -
Reed
diffusers..!
Reed
diffusers work on the principle of capillary action. Porous reeds are immersed
in a container of fragrance oil; the fragrance travels up the reed and
permeates within the room.
No
need to light any fire, no ash and the aroma stays for 24 hours. Choose them
for your bedroom or living room.
Flower
diffusers..!
A
diffuser with a difference - they have a sola flower attached to a cotton wick.
The arrangement is immersed into a pot containing fragrance oil.
The
fragrance travels up the wick, is absorbed by the flower and released into the
room.
Vapourisers..!
They
work their magic when a few drops of essential oil are added to a bowl of water
and heated from below with a tea light candle. As the water slowly heats, the
fragrance of the volatile oil gently permeates the room.
They
add a decorative touch and are ideal for when you’re hosting a get-together.
Amphora..!
Traditionally,
an amphora is a type of container of a characteristic shape and size, said to
have been around from as early as the Neolithic Period.
In
the fragrance world, an amphora is a decorative artifact that diffuses
fragrance when oil is sprayed/poured onto it.
Other
options..!
Try
potpourri, a mixture of dried plant material that emanates a gentle fragrance;
aroma candles or / the many varieties of air fresheners on the market to create
an aromatic house.
DIY
fragrances..!
Store-bought
fragrance delivery systems may be extremely popular, but home-made ones are
unbeatable. Simmer a pot of water with a dash of cinnamon powder & a few
cloves.
Or
/ toss lemon / orange rinds into water
and boil.
The
delicious fragrance wafting into your living room will have guests wondering
what’s cooking!
Stay
fragrant..!
Weed out persistent odours consistently. Old
& mouldy carpets often send out a bad odour that can not be masked. Throw
them out, open up the windows & air out the house.
If
you must keep a carpet, regularly rub it with a solution of one part vinegar
with three parts water. Rinse and air dry. Stashes of baking soda in
troublesome spots help deal with odours.
For
more stubborn ones, place a bowl of white vinegar in the smelly area for 24
hours. An open pot of baking soda at the back of the fridge absorbs odours. To
take away the overpowering smell of curries and fried food, boil a cup of
vinegar.
