Are Your Dreams Bigger Than Your Excuses?

Mr. Sivakumar Palaniappan - Life and Career Coach

Dreams are one of the biggest motivators when it comes to being successful in life, and excuses are the most common reason for failure. We have some deeply ingrained excuses in the name of "fair justifications" that seems very real to us.

People often get carried away with the current situation and circumstances in their life as excuses. Have you ever told any of these to yourself, your loved ones, your boss or anyone...?

1. No...no...I am not an expert.
2. I am too young / old to do this.
3. It is not really a conducive climate to start.
4. I don't think people around will support me in this.
5. Let the good times come, then I'll think about it.
6. I don't have time or money or resources.
7. Probably there is too much competition out there.
8. It is really risky.
9. MANY MORE LIKE THIS........(and the list is endless)

Yes, it might be true that this is your circumstance, but you are NOT your circumstance. And the more you affirm and identify with your circumstance, the more powerful you will create it. Because what we focus on is what expands and becomes real in our lives. But all these limitations are there for certain reasons.

"… remember, the brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough." - Prof.Randy Pausch in his last lecture at the Carnegie Mellon University on Sept. 18, 2007.

Shift your focus from problems to possibilities. Your perspective determines what choices you have in life: you are less likely to see all the choices that may be available to you when your focus is not on possibilities. When you focus on possibilities, improving your strengths and using your natural talents to be a better person, your challenges are minimized.

Get your DREAMS really bigger than your excuses.

Action Point:
Live a week (at least a day) without thinking too much about just ONE excuse that you often attribute for not doing what you love to do. See how your life looks like?
