Great
Lakes Institute of Management, a leading B-School in the country, hosted the 6th
International Entrepreneurship Conference with the theme “Mobility with
Nobility”. The conference also marked the launch of Center for
Excellence in Business Analytics and Business Intelligence, officially
inaugurated by Mr. Shankar Narayanan, Ex-Chairman, Founder and CEO - SPIME INC,
Co-Founder-Emuzed Inc& Co-Founder Nexus Inc, USA. The inaugural address for
the center was delivered by Mr. Vinod Muthukrishnan, CEO Cloudcherry Pte,
Singapore. The center is one of the steps towards realizing the ‘Success to
substance’ vision that Great Lakes has set for itself as it completes its 10
years of Excellence. Also present at the occasion Mr. Ram Vishwanathan,
Distinguished IBM Engineer, spoke on the conference theme. This year at the
conference, high impact area of digital world, “Mobility” was discussed.
During
the conference, a panel discussion was held where the panelist spoke on the
three fertile areas within the mobility spectrum – Social Media & rich
communication experience, Web & Mobile tech and Inclusive Growth. Dr.
K.C.John, Director, Center of Excellence in Technopreneurship gave an overview
of the conference. He stressed the importance of entrepreneurship and pointed
out that in last few years India witnessed a meager employment growth rate of
2.3% only and now it is time to create jobs rather than seeking one.
The Center for Excellence in Business Analytics
and Business Intelligence has been launched with an objective to sync business
studies with the emerging trends of the digital world. The Centre would have an
association with an analytics company and Great Lakes is currently in talks
with companies such as Cloudcherry for the same. Great Lakes envisions to drive
most advanced and cutting edge solutions in digital analytics which would
substantiate knowledge creation, dissemination and academic as well as industry
application, provide thought leadership to business managers. The Centre shall
have a governing body and a business advisory council with eminent industry
leaders for interfacing the academia with industry. And will deliver cutting
edge solutions that will help companies and businesses reach its consumers
effectively and efficiently. At the occasion a text book on Business Analytics
by Dr. Tapan Panda, Professor Marketing, Great
Lakes Institute of Management was released.
Prof Bala V. Balachandran, Founder and Dean,
Great Lakes Institute of Management said, “Mobile is going to take a major
change in coming years with large audience being interconnected.Envisioning
this as an opportunity, Great Lakes is going to create and offer boutique
courses in Business Analytics and Intelligence as a part of the management
studies in contrast to traditional business studies. We are also in the process
of signinganMoU with Illinois Institute of Technology for Center for Excellence
in Technopreneurship, through which we plan to offer courses such as Master of
Science in Technopreneurship.”Prof
Bala also advised students that, ‘The world is at your hands, be a creator of
job and wealth rather than being a consumer of it.”
In his address Mr. Shankar Narayanan,
Ex-Chairman, Founder and CEO - SPIME INC, Co-Founder-EmuzedInc& Co-Founder
Nexus Inc, USA said, “An entrepreneur should possess three important qualities
and they are going by Intuition, thinkingDifferently and building Relationships.”
In his address,Mr. Vinod Muthukrishnan, CEO,
Cloudcherry spoke about Entrepreneurship and its challenges. He advised the
students that in spite of the number of failures one may encounter during his
entrepreneurial journey, finally there is a rewarding time and that reward has
to be shared with the society. Talking on Mobility, Vinod said, “When Mobility,
Big data, Analytics and cloud come together, then there is path breaking ideas
and Business Intelligence.”
In the valedictory functionNitin T, Paripoorna
Pandey, Ashworth Vaz, Nanden Kishore of Team Parichay from Great Lakes, were
awarded cash prize of Rs. 70,000 for their business plan on the event theme.
The award was felicitated under Hyperion, an annual entrepreneurship
competition conducted by Great Lakes in partnership with NEN (National
Entrepreneurship Network).The
prize has been instituted in the memory of Narsinga Rao, alumnus of Great
Lakes’ first batch-Pioneers (2004-05). He had over 21 years’ experience in the
IT/Software Industry, with more than 12 years as the Chief Operating Officer
and Co-founder of SSI Ltd, a Company listed on the Bombay, National and the
London Stock Exchanges. He was instrumental in taking SSI from a start-up to
being ranked in the top 500 companies in India by Dun and Bradstreet.
Mr. Sanjay Singh, VP & Head Engineering,
GlobalLogic in his valedictory speech mentioned the essential traits of an
entrepreneur such as Passion, tenacity, creativity, vision and an infectious
trait to spread the idea, which make a successful entrepreneur.
