Reports highlight key
recommendations for sustainable business practices
On the occasion of
TERI’s Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), YES BANK and TERI BCSD
released two knowledge reports ‘Survey of Green Real Estate Sector 2014’ and
‘India’s Natural Capital Leaders – A Compendium’. The reports were released by
the Chief Guest for the event, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State for Human
Resources Development, along with Dr. R. K. Pachauri, Director-General, TERI,
Mr. John Bryson, former US Secretary of Commerce and Ms. Namita Vikas, Senior
President & Chief Sustainability Officer, YES BANK.
The ‘YES BANK – TERI
BCSD Survey of Green Real Estate Sector 2014’ provides a comprehensive
multi-stakeholder perspective on challenges, gaps and key drivers for the
growth of the sector in India. The survey highlights the lack of awareness
about benefits of green buildings and unavailability of preferential lending
rates as the biggest challenges in the real estate sector, while underscoring
the urgent need for all stakeholders to work towards its growth. The second
report, ‘India’s Natural Capital Leaders – A Compendium’, aims to provide
insights on climate change mitigation practices, followed by Indian businesses
and identifies water conservation and GHG emission reporting as key strategic
practices.
Commending the joint
efforts of TERI-BCSD and YES BANK, Dr R. K. Pachauri, Director-General, TERI
said, “Such initiatives bring to fore the importance of effective
sustainability practices by businesses. I congratulate YES BANK for their
leadership role in mainstreaming sustainable development in their plans and
practices.”
Mr. Rana Kapoor,
Managing Director & CEO, YES BANK said, “These reports reiterate our
commitment to providing research insights for key environmental issues that
Indian industry faces today. The Green Real Estate Survey aims to align the
real estate sector along sustainability parameters, thus shaping India’s
national mission of promoting sustainable habitat. The Natural Capital
compendium, on the other hand, presents best practices in sustainable
development that can be replicated across industry to achieve resource
efficiencies while simultaneously mitigating impact on the environment.”
Speaking on the
occasion, Ms. Namita Vikas, Senior President & Chief Sustainability
Officer, YES BANK said “The reports reflect the depth of our association with
TERI BCSD to facilitate research on climate change mitigation and Natural
Capital conservation in India. We believe it is important to present a
first-person view of perceived impediments to growth and offer credible solutions
towards mainstreaming green buildings in India. The Compendium presents
interesting case studies on natural capital conservation and emphasizes the
need for industry to incorporate the preservation of natural resources such as
water, land, biodiversity and other dependent services into their operational
strategies. These two reports would help corporate houses integrate sustainable
practices into their core operations.”
