Chennai Sees Double Digit Hiring in Jan.14:

  * The Index has witnessed 18 % increase in hiring in Jan’14 over Dec’13
 *   Professionals working in Auto sector  witness a  2 % dip  in hiring in Jan’14 over Dec’13

 The Naukri Job Speak Index of Chennai for the month of Jan’14 has shown an increase with the index moving up by 18 % as compared to Dec’13. The Y-O-Y comparison shows that the index has moved up by 1 % in Jan’14. Among Industries- Auto sector has seen a decline with the index moving down by 2% % in Jan’14 as compared to Dec’13. Annual comparison also reflects the growth trajectory with the index moving down by 18 % in Jan’14 over Jan’13.


Commenting on the index, Mr. V Suresh, EVP and Head Sales Naukri.com said “Recovery in global economy coupled with positive sentiments in the domestic markets has led to the surge in the hiring trends in Chennai. Despite a lacklustre performance by Auto sector, the job market in Chennai is likely to sustain the current momentum primarily because of the IT/ITES sectors”.



Industry Sector Analysis..

An in depth analysis shows that among industries, IT sector has performed well with the Naukri Job Speak Index going up 18% M-O-M.  BPO sector has also witnessed a spike in hiring with the index moving up by 13% M-O-M. Banking& Insurance and Oil & Gas has also seen an increase with the Naukri Jon Speak Index moving up by 1%.   Yearly comparison also shows IT and BPO sector has again shown a double digit growth of 33% and 31% Y-O-Y respectively.

 In terms of decline, auto sector is the only industry which is experiencing a de growth in hiring with the Naukri Job Speak Index going down by 2% M-O-M.

 Functional Area Analysis:

 The demand for professionals working in Sales & Business development and Project Management   continued to grow with the index moving up by 19% and 18% in Jan’14 as compared to Dec’13.  BPO and IT sector also witnessed an increase with the index moving up by 16% and 12% M-O-M.

In terms of decline, professionals working in banking sector have witnessed a decline with the index moving down by 3% M-O-M.
