Chettinad University 4th Convocation held recently.
Chettinad Academy of Research & Education (Chettinad
University) held its 4th convocation at the Sigapi Achi Convention Center, 108
students who graduated were awarded degrees and diplomas by Dr. M A M.
Ramaswamy, Chancellor, Chettinad University.
The Chief Guest, Dr.V.Shantha, Chairperson, Cancer
Institute (WIA) delivered the convocation address and presented the Rajah
Muthiah & Sigapi Achi Awards to 12 outstanding students for proficiency.
The Guest of
Honour, Mr. T.S. Krishnamurthy, former Chief Election Commissioner of India,
currently on the Board of Governors of the Consumer Education and Research
Centre, Ahmadabad, delivered the special address.
Prof. Dr. V. Raji, Vice Chancellor, welcomed the
gathering and presented the annual performance report of the University. In her
address, she said that an eco friendly campus along with optimal use of
Information Communication Technology is ideally suited for academic pursuits
& greatly augments teaching-learning activities. This helps students to become
an all-round personality.
Dr. Raji added that the hospital attached to the medical
college continues to offer the best in medical services to the under privileged
sections of the society, in and around the hospital. It also offers the most
sophisticated therapeutic options through the super specialty hospital
services.
The research division headed by Prof. R.M.Pitchappan is
creating a niche in its specialization by offering the latest in thrust areas
of genomics and genetic epidemiology in infectious and lifestyle diseases,
environment, pollution and research include nanotechnology in diagnostics,
targeted drug delivery & vaccination, human lifestyle, native medicines,
marine pharmacology and drug delivery, and computational biology pathway
analysis in disease states and innovations impart substitutions and
diagnostics.
The teaching faculty is doing the University proud by
bagging various awards and recognitions. Three Nursing faculties have been
inducted as members of various Boards of the Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council. Six faculty of Chettinad
Hospital & Research Institute have received recognition for their
contributions in their respective areas of study.
Two students, Mr.P.Gnanankumar received the UGC award
Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities and Mr. S. K.
Esdan Basha was awarded Junior Research Fellowship by CSIR.
Dr. Raji concluded by saying that Chettinad Health City
Medical Journal - a quarterly scientific publication, is now indexed with
Genamics Journal Seek, Index Copernicus International and Google Scholar
thereby placing the journal among the top research publications in the world.
