Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, a premier B-School in the country, held its B-school fest EMergeon ‘13 today in its platinum rated LEED certified campus. The theme for the year was “Dawn of New Light - Resurgence of Emerging Markets.” The fest was flagged off by the first batch of 2 years Fulltime Program - PGDM students. In the fest students from other premier B –Schools across the country such as IIMs, ISB, IIFT, IITs, SP Jain and XLRI participated.
The fest was contrived and modeled keeping in mind the characteristics of emerging economies market. This structure enabled the students to critically think and focus towards doing business in the emerging market countries. In their efforts, Great Lakes set a platform for grooming business ready managers by driving students to think of ideas at primary level that are synonymous with emerging economies market. The fest was graced by Mr. Moo Soo Kim, MD & CEO, Woori Bank.
In his welcome speech Prof. Sriram, Executive Director, Great Lakes Institute of Management, spoke about the importance of possessing forecasting skills and assessing future of the market. “The emerging economies are potpourri of different countries and every country is bound with different sets of challenges and kinds of problems. One needs to study and understand the emerging economies because down the line 40 % of GDP will come from these countries.” He added, “I am happy to be here to inaugurate this event, I wish and congratulate the students of PGDM for initiating the first edition of EMergeon successfully and thinking with touch of future.”
The inaugural address was delivered by Mr. Moo Soo Kim, MD & CEO, Woori Bank. Mr. Kim congratulated the students of Great Lakes for organizing the event with a vision to address the future. “I congratulate the team of Great Lakes for reaching new heights at such a short span of time since its establishment. The credit for the success goes to the founder Prof. Bala V. Balachandran, professors and the institution’s alumni and students.”
While talking on Korea’s road to success he said, “Korea reached new heights and today it is one of the top economies of the world, this was achieved through education and hard work. Education cultivated positive thinking among the citizens and hard work ensured the success. I would like to conclude by saying dream, believe and execute. I hope students of Great Lakes will very well follow that.”
In his concluding speech Prof. Bobby Srinivasan, Director – PGDM, Great Lakes Institute of Management said, “From being Indian citizens we are in transition of being citizens of the world. We are entering the global nutshell where our knowledge, intellect, resource and economy are shared with the world. We are all in one learning process, hence I advice every student here to think global with touch of future.”

The business fest featured competitions such as,Brand EM’UP: The Marketing Event sets forth an artificial launch pad for an Indian product to be launched in one of the emerging economies.
EMboundLogistricks:
The Operations event would test the competencies of the future manager to set his/her supply chain basics right.
EMvestors: Calling upon the fin wiz’ pan India, the finance event is a strategic portfolio management event involving 2 rounds wherein the best brains are move on to rewrite the histories of the NASDAQ’s and the NYSE’s of the world.
Human EMpact: The future controllers of attrition, retention and appraisal will be put to intense pressure through the 2 rounds of the HR event.
BANDwidth:
The Battle is to crown the best band in the country.
