In the quarter to
September, 2013 cement prices in India were low for the first 2 months but
picked up in September.
In September,prices
rose to Rs. 299 per 50 kg compared to Rs. 293 in August this year. This 2 %
rise in prices countrywide has been triggered due to the their rise mainly in
the southern and northern regions.
According to an ICICI
report based on interactions with cement dealers, cement prices in both the
regions grew by Rs. 32 and.12 per 50-kg bag on a year-onyear basis,
respectively.
Compared to the
South, demand growth in the central & eastern regions was subdued and
cement prices in these regions fell, but are stable now.
In the eastern &
central regions, average cement prices fell by Rs. 9 and Rs. 12 per 50-kg bag
to.Rs. 319 and. Rs. 258, respectively compared to a year ago.
This means
South-based companies would be better off than others in terms of profits.
Besides, companies like Ultratech Cement, Ambuja Cements & ACC, which have a
pan-India presence, are also expected to show a lesser fall in profits.
