Ingersoll Rand: Working on 250 square feet Nano Homes

Industrial technology major Ingersoll Rand is working on a new “Nano-like” concept for dwellings which will be small, affordable & sustainable, Mr. Venkatesh Valluri, Chairman &  President has told.

“We are building houses where the convergence concept comes to fruition. We should be able to demonstrate the use sustainable technologies for energy, IT, light, water & sanitation” Mr. Venkatesh Valluri said, adding that the `sustainable habitat’ initiative was underway at IR’s Bangalore campus.

The 250 square feet houses that will be designed for five (5) different climatic zones, will typically be priced at Rs. 2 lakh and service the lower segments of the socio economic strata.

“We are trying to see whether we can be successful in designing such dwellings” Mr. Venkatesh Valluri said, adding that the firm hoped to have it for public viewing in the next one year.

The firm has short listed many ideas that it has received & each single floor dwelling will have multiple technologies embedded in it.


Some of these could be use of cloud computing for knowledge needs, use of solar or / bio-mass for energy Mr. Venkatesh Valluri explained, but said that it was still a premature stage to make any assessment.
