Great Lakes Institute of Management, a premier business school in the country, organized its ‘Successful Women in Management(SWIM) 2013’ conference to honour the women who have proved and succeeded in their respective fields. Ms. Renuka Ramnath, Founder, Managing Director & CEO, Multiples Alternate Asset Management, was the chief speaker of the occasion, joined the event through video conference. Present at the conference Ms. Nirmala Menon, Founder & CEO, Interweave Consulting and Dr. Usha Sriram, Founder, ACEER Health, delivered the key note addresses. Prof. Bala V. Balachandran, Founder & Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management delivered the official welcoming address.
SWIM was first started in the year 2005 with an aim to honor and encourage the women leaders for their priceless contributions to the society. A panel discussion was held where the speakers discussed on the current year’s theme “If women Ruled the Corporate World.” The chief guest of the occasion Ms. Renuka Ramnath shared her experience and invaluable advice to the students present at the conference. The address emphasized on the importance of women’s contributions at various capacities of management structure, significance of being ambitious and importance of possessing the knack for being successful. During the conference the audience had a chance to directly interact with the speakers.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Bala V. Balachandran, Founder & Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management said “The contributions of Women to the society and the industry can never be discounted. Women leaders have the power to inspire the society through their strong leadership and intellectual qualities bundled with subtle emotional quotient. I congratulate every one of the members part of SWIM for their selfless efforts put in to empower and promote women leaders.”
In her speech Dr S. K. Shanthi, Professor of Economics, Great Lakes Institute of Management said, “This event stands as the testimony that women are setting up new horizons not only in the field of management but also society on a whole. I am sure through SWIM we will be able to communicate the message to the ambitious women and inspire them through the stories of other successful women in management.”
Delivering the Inaugural address Ms. Renuka Ramnath said, “ I don’t want to dwell in terms of Man and Woman, but competence plays the key role. Once you know that the person is competent, the support should be unconditional regardless of the gender.”
In her key note address Ms. Nirmala Menon, “The environment is constantly changing and today’s corporate world is programmed in such a way that it demands equal participation of men and women. The natural difference between men and women is the factor that creates the healthy balance in an organization. Dr. Usha Sriram added, “ Women are naturally talented at multi tasking, more tolerant and posses good people skills. In this new climate where women juggle a lot, should not neglect their health and communication with their family.”
Great Lakes received great response in terms of participation from other leading management institutions like IIM’s, Narsee Monjee, SIBM, XIMB and others for the contest announced this year.
