The Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India (CREDAI) will request the Maharashtra state government to impart training to construction labourers through funds collected as labour cess.

Mr. Anant Rajegaonkar, President, CREDAI Maharashtra said, "We pay labour cess of 1 % of the project cost to the state government while sanctioning building plans from the civic body or the concerned authorities. The state should spend the amount generated through labour cess to impart skills development training to the labourers. The CREDAI in Andhra Pradesh provides training to construction labourers through revenue collected as labour cess which is spent by the state government for the same purpose. We will soon meet with the state minister for labour, Mr. Hasan Mushrif and urge him to use the revenue generated through labour cess for the training."

He also said that the aim of the scheme was to create skilled manpower for construction industry &  training centres would be opened at all branches across the city. The body hopes to provide training to 10,000 labourers in a year. The association is studying the skilled workforce demand in different cities of the state.

Mr. Anant Rajegaonkar said, "Our major objective is to increase the productivity of construction labourers. They would be taught to adopt modern techniques & do qualitative work according to global standards. The proposed centres at 5 select cities are expected to be operational within a year. Nashik, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Solapur &  Kolhapur are the first 5 cities on the top of our priority list"

CREDAI will expand its presence across the state by adding 42 branches to the existing 29 within a year.

Mr. Anant Rajegaonkar said, "Now, we have 29 branches with 2,500 members across the state. We are opening new branches at 13 new places within the next three months at Kalyan, Dombivali, Virar, Badlapur, Igatpuri, Sangamner, Pimplalgaon, Parbhani, Khamgaon, Vardha, Gondiya, Pandharpur and Hingoli."
