India Bhishma Award for Radhakrishnan..!

Mr. R. Radhakrishnan, All India Past President & Trustee of Builders Association of India (BAI) has been conferred with India Bhishma Award 2013. He has been honoured with the award on the occasion of

40th convention of International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors’ Associations (IFAWPCA) by the organising committee constituted by the BAI for the conduct of the event.

The committee is proud to bestow him with the award and considers him apt to receive it given his yeoman service to the nation’s infrastructure development. Referring him as Bhishma of modern era, the members of the committee recalled his illustrious career spanning several decades.

Radhakrishnan had held various positions in the BAI before becoming vice president of the association

for two terms and unanimously elected as its president in 1988-89.

He had attended the BATIMAT Exhibition in Paris in 1987 and ILO Conference in Geneva in 1992. He was the founder council member of the Indian Concrete Institute at Chennai.

The committee recognised his significant contributions to the society and pointed out several

awards he received such as Best Participant of ILO Conference 1992, BAI Lifetime Achievement

Award 2011, Visvesvaraya Award 2011 from Federation of All Civil Engineers Associations of Tamilnadu (FACEAT), etc.

Profile of Mr. Radhakrishnan..!

Born on July 2, 1941 in a small village near Chengleput in an

agricultural family, Radhakrishnan studied Diploma in Civil Engineering from Bhaktavatsalam Polytechnic at Kanchipuram following a brief stint at Jain College, Chennai.

He started his career in Central Public Works Department but resigned in 1973. Then on he was on his own starting a construction company “Engineers Enterprises” along with his friends. The firm executes underground sub-ways, multi-storied buildings, pre-cast pre-stressed structures, major bridge

works, marine works, etc. mostly for PWDs, Highways and Madras Port Trust.

He was an active member of BAI since he joined in 1973. He held in succession offices of Honourary Treasurer, Honourary Secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman of the

Southern Centre, first Zonal Chairman for the South Zone for three successive years.

On BAI mission, he has traveled widely in India and also attended

eight IFAWPCA International Conventions, in Singapore [1979], Bangkok [1982], Manila [1984], Sydney, Australia [1986] as a member of BAI delegation, and in Taipei [April 1988 ] as the leader of the delegation, in Tokyo, Japan [1993] and Seoul, South Korea [September 1996].   In 1991, a convention was held at Mumbai. With that, he has participated in nine conventions

altogether.
