E-waste collection day April 6
According to the policy note of the Environment Ministry, The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) will prepare new guidelines for e-waste management in tune with the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) latest guidelines.
19 E - Waste recyclers..!
The note tabled in the Assembly recently said that the board has given permission to 19 E - Waste recyclers for segregation & recovery of metals, and synthetic waste such as plastic from electrical & electronic products.
E - waste refers to waste generated when electrical & electronic equipment is discarded.
According to information available on the CPCB Web site, it has framed the E - Waste (Management & Handling) Rules, 2011, which took effect from May 2012. It covers producers, consumers, collection centers, dismantlers, recyclers & regulators such as pollution control boards.
The rules place the responsibility of e - waste management on the producers of the electrical & electronic equipment by introducing the concept of “extended producer responsibility”.
The manufacturer has to finance & organise a system to meet the costs of disposing the equipment once the consumer discards them.
