Under the RTI Act : SEBI Asked to Provide Free Information to Undertrial Prisoner..!

In a first of its kind order, Indian stock market regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has been asked by an appellate authority to provide various information about stock markets, including study materials, free of cost to an undertrial prisoner. Hearing an appeal by the under-trial prisoner in this matter, the Appellate Authority of the SEBI has said that the appellant is eligible for a fee waiver, as he could be considered a person of BPL (below poverty line) because of being an undertrial prisoner.

The appellant, Mr. Ram Patel, had filed an application with SEBI on October 15, 2012 under the RTI Act, seeking details like the complete list of stock exchanges in India & a copy of their procedure manual, model, guideline, policy, rule and regulation, other details like turnover & listing of stock exchanges and details of all share broker services companies.
