Indian Capital market regulator SEBI will make it mandatory for issuers to compensate retail investors in initial share sales if the stocks fall sharply within a few months of listing.
The regulator SEBI has received extreme views from investors & market participants on the subject and is expected to soon arrive at a view.
Mr. U. K. Sinha, Chief, SEBI,'' We will start in a soft way.The whole idea behind the safety net is that we want to put some pressure in the minds of promoters & advisors on pricing. As you know, safety net in a voluntary way is in existence in India even today. It is there in the rulebook. It is not something that is being imported entirely new."
