According to report
by rating company ICRA, Housing finance penetration has remained stagnant over
the past 5 years.
The penetration
levels are far lower than those in developing economies. This trend points to a
significant scope for further growth in future.
The challenges for
growth in housing finance include relatively high property prices, declining
affordability and tough operating environment.
The total
housing loan outstanding in India as on March 31, 2012 was over Rs. 6,26,100
crore as against Rs. 5,34,500 crore as on March 31, 2011, indicating growth of
17 per cent.
The home loan market reported a growth of nearly 10 per cent over 2011-12
levels in H1, 2012-13.
