About 14 lakh houses
will come up
in 5 new zones, called urban extensions In order to tackle the shortage
of houses in the Delhi city, the DDA (Delhi Development Authority) has begun a
survey to identify land for LIG (low income group) and MIG (middle income
group) housing in Delhi.
The DDA would concentrate
on LIG & MIG housing wherever plot of land is available. The land agency
has not come up with new housing schemes since 2010.
DDA’s 2010 Housing
Scheme..!
The process of
identifying plot of land available for constructing LIG & MIG homes has
begun. DDA are planning to construct such housing projects on smaller plots
where 500 to 700 flats can be made. This
is necessary to meet the housing requirements of the city,
Under DDA’s 2010
housing scheme, buyers were supposed to get possession of most of the 16,000
odd flats by end of 2011, but the land agency is still completing the process
of handing over flats to successful allottees.
The emphasis is on
constructing houses for the EWS (economically weaker sections) to prevent more
unauthorised colonies from cropping up in the Delhi city.
Urban Development
Minister Mr. Kamal Nath said, ''One lakh
EWS houses should be built every year. We are trying to achieve this target”
Delhi has about 1.7 crore residents, according to official
estimates. Master Plan - 2021 projects that the population will swell to about
2.3 crore by 2021, and estimates that an additional 24 lakh houses will be needed.
About 14 lakh of these
new homes will come up in 5 new zones called urban extensions, created in
fringe areas under the Master Plan.
These are near
Najafgarh in Southwest Delhi;
Chhattarpur in South;
Kanjhawala beyond
Rohini in Northwest;
near Nangloi and to
the east of Narela along the Yamuna in North.
But work on these
urban extensions has been put on hold as the DDA is looking at plot of land
pooling instead of acquisition for the city’s growth.
