She was the nightingale of Carnatic music. Fondly called MS, M.S. Subbulakshmi won the hearts of millions of fans around the world with her golden voice & kind heart. Subbulakshmi, who passed away in 2004, was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.

The comic book was launched at the Narada Gana Sabha in Chennai by Mr. Gopalakrishna Gandhi, Chairman, Kalakshetra foundation, Ex-Governor of West Bengal and Grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, in the presence of Mr. Vijay Sampath, CEO, ACK Media and Mr. Rakesh C.S., artist for M.S. Subbulakshmititle.

A graphic biography of 31 pages, Amar Chitra Katha’s new title M.S. Subbulakshmi – Queen of Carnatic Music, explores her relationships, understands her motivations, and celebrates her success. It is about the people and experiences that made MSS the legend she was. From her humble beginnings in HanumantharayarKoil Street in Madurai, to her early lessons with her accomplished mother, the story talks about her devotion, even at a very young age, to music.
While MSS’s music was a God-given gift, it was the influence of her husband, the fiery T Sadashivam – that eventually made MSS the global icon she is today.
Amar Chitra Katha’s editorial team put in about nine months of work on the comic. Scriptwriter ArunaBalkrsihna Singh read and researched, and also met people who knew M.S. Before creating the script. The illustrator is ACK artist, Rakesh C.S. And the colourist is Prakash S.
