A new scheme launched
by the Tamil Nadu (TN) govt makes solar power more accessible
Generation
Based Incentives..!
The TN government had
launched a new solar energy policy which, among other things, moots GBI (generation based incentives) especially
targeting domestic consumers.
According to the
scheme, a subsidy of Rs. 2 per unit will be given for the first two (2) years;
Re. 1 per unit for the next two (2)
years and 50 paise per unit for the following two (2) years. This has been made
applicable for all solar or solar wind hybrid rooftop installations that are
set up before 31 March 2014.
The scheme will be
administered by the TEDA (TN Energy Development Agency) and the TANGEDCO (Tamil
Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation).
According to the
scheme, it will cost a domestic consumer nearly Rs. 2 lakh to set up a 1 KW
solar powered plant, in which the central subsidy will be Rs. 81,000.
Solar Photovoltaic
Plants..!
The newly announced
TN state government subsidy is in addition to the central subsidy. The scheme
is especially relevant for off - grid solar photovoltaic plants set up by
domestic consumers.
Separate meters will
be set up to calculate solar power generation & the billing, to be
undertaken by TANGEDCO , will be adjusted for the incentive. TANGEDCO assessors
will check houses of domestic consumers opting for solar power installations to
ensure that it is in line with the policy.
For solar systems set
up in individual houses that are connected to the grid, net metering will allow
the feeding of excess power to the grid & will earn them power credits.
Domestic consumers
can buy solar photovoltaic sets from the 120 odd suppliers that are approved by
TEDA.
