In a move that will benefit consumers greatly, the
central government recently told 19 products, mostly used daily, will have to
be sold in standardised packages. The products include cereals, pulses, tea,
biscuits and bread. Also Cement and paints have also been included.
This will mean that these products can only be sold in
standard weights & volumes, with a minimum for each. The standardisation
will put an end to producers quietly reducing weights & volumes of their
goods to show that prices have not been increased. This is a standard, though
not illegal, practice, since the reduction is usually reflected on the package.
