Cost of Green Building 5% Higher : 3 Years Substantial Reduction in Perational Costs

The IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) expects nearly 200 crore square feet of sustained building footprint by 2015.

At present about 1,745 eco-friendly building projects with over 121 crore square feet of green footprint are registered with the IGBC.

Mr. Gurmit Singh Arora, Vice-Chairman, IGBC Mumbai Chapter said,  “The green concept is becoming very popular among developers as they have realised its benefits including fast return on investments. Construction cost of a green building may be 3 to 5% higher than conventional buildings. But the incremental cost gets paid back within 2 to 3 years with substantial reduction in operational costs. This makes good business sense”
