Evershine Wire Products - A Shining star Risen from dust..!

-      An Article from Our Building and Construction
Holding a property and safeguarding the same is not an easy task in a scenario where land grabbing and encroachment threatens land/ property owners. Secure and reliable solution to the issue is fencing the area.

For fencing, mostly barbed wire is used given its economy of scale and Chainlink and welded mesh are also used for the purpose. But use of wires and wire meshes don’t stop here.

The demand for these products have silently penetrated to the key areas of the construction field that different types and sizes of wire meshes are used in some of the concreting works. It is already a convention to use MS wires during centering jobs in concrete laying.
Wire meshes are useful as a protector from mosquitoes. They are made in plastics – nylon also. The demand for these wire and wire mesh products has been increasing with the identification of new and newer areas of potential usage. And the one taking the lead in this market is Evershine Wire Products (P) Ltd ably guided by Chandrajit Banthia and his son, Kunal Banthia.

The company, motivated by the retail chain idea, is now providing its brand name ‘Shine Star’ to a group of manufacturers who would supply wire and wire mesh products to Evershine’s specifications. The company’s products include shade net, plastic wire mesh, cattle protection mesh, chicken mesh, concertina coil, perforated sheet and garbian box, apart from common and
conventional materials.

The company also makes available to its industrial customers conveyor belts and vibrating screens. Now with the eemuculturing evolving into a big business, Evershine has set up a separate division to cater to the requirements of eemu farms. Hailing from Rajasthan and rising from a manufacturing business oriented family wellsettled in Kolkata, destiny played its part in swaying a sibling of the Banthia family to the southwestern part of the country and Tamilnadu – Coimbatore. It was accidental when Chandrajit moved to and settled in the Manchester of south India permanently for the sake of his elder son, Kunal, while on a holiday tour with his family to Udhagamandalam (Ooty) and Kodaikanal, in 1990. Handing over the family business at Kolkata that is breaking even at that time, to his younger brother, senior Banthia started his own business in the new city he had adopted as his native.

He quickly adapted to the nuances of the textile city and its nature and culture. He started a wire and wire products trading business in a small corner shop on the Mill Road, which is purely a wire mesh products market. His original idea was to start a manufacturing unit, but settled with the current setup upon the advice from well-wishers in the city. However, it seems misfortunes followed him wherever he moved with his business.

The man behind the company tried all sorts of strategies to bring the business back on rail using all possible resources available with him including settlement from ancestral legacy. He continued to carry the urge for manufacturing in his subconscious level and even attempted at it by setting up GI wire producing unit and also tried construction activities. All these bids were miserable.

But courage and business acumen of this brave businessman chased away the adversities swiftly, to become successful since 2000 and is now where they are – a own building, the third one, and the second shop they shifted due to lack of space being retained, all on the same Mill Road. He could satiate his love for manufacture by appointing producers for his company’s products.

Now he is only short of a producer - a quasi-manufacturer. The new millennium seems to have brought them basketful of fortunes to this composed and ever shining business group. And for Chandrajit, who takes cues from world’s retail chain leader, WalMart, 18 branches, including two procurement offices in Delhi and Kolkata, of his company is not satisfying and his target is 100 over the next few years.

A strong support to him in all his endeavours is his elder son Kunal, for whose sake they moved to Coimbatore and who joined the company in 2009 after returning from London with BSc in Business Studies. Both have had good education and have traveled many countries. Kunal, continuing with his academics as he, at 24, is still having steam to exhaust in learning process, is said to be giving good speeches in business and motivation. So it is not a surprise that the company, under their able guidance, had also won the best NSI-CRISIL small entrepreneur award for 2010. The company is also an ISO-9001-2000 certified.

Adding another jewel to its crown, Tata Steel Group, acknowledging and recognizing the performance of Evershine, has shortlisted the company and entered into an alliance with it for its Wiron products. As per the agreement, the Tata wire products will be marketed byEvershine under brand name Wiron ShineStar. And the company continues with horizontal integration strategically focusing on the construction sector, introducing newer products suited to this business such as locks and handles. Having overcome the cragged business path in the past two decades, Evershine is now a Rs. 65 crore turnover company, and aiming at Rs. 100 crore in the next year.

Now the company is transforming from a wire netting company into acomplete hardware solutions provider targeting direct customers basically from the construction sector. Here father-son combo of Evershine reveal their and the company’s business graph in their own words
