Mr. R. Seetharaman, CEO, Doha Bank was endowed with the honorary doctorate on 20th May 2012 during the 229th commencement function of Washington College. Mr. R. Seetharaman while accepting the Doctorate title thanked the Washington college management & also congratulated all of the graduates and their families for their incredible achievement.
Mr. R. Seetharaman said “It is a proud day for all you, the culmination of years of hard work & sacrifice. I would also like to thank President Reiss, the Board of Governors, faculty & staff of Washington College for allowing me to share in this special day by conferring this incredible honor on me. I am so proud to be a part of this esteemed academic family, and to join my fellow honorees in becoming a permanent part of this University & this global network of friends. "
Changing face of the world..!
Mr. R. Seetharaman gave his outlook on the changing face of the world.
He said “My being here today is testament to the connected and interdependent world that we live in. The world used to operate like a series of islands but, today we have near total economic interdependence, a result of dramatic technological & communications innovations. If the world of yesterday was a group of islands, today it is like Face book. One open, transparent network. We are all the content providers across this network."
Mr. R. Seetharaman inspired the youth to scale up great heights. He said “As a banker, I not only use social network to facilitate capital flows, but to push for reforms and social responsibility. But the generation of graduates we are here to celebrate today students of today will be the key for assured growth & change in the world. Your minds are wired to this new global order that rewards interdependence and innovation. The future strength of the world will rely on your ability to successfully harness these networks and share new ideas & economic possibilities. I urge each of you today to prioritize innovation and creativity in whatever paths you may follow. As you look to your future, look from a perspective of confidence & opportunity. There is much to do and together we can forge the future path of this nation and our world.”
In his closing remarks Mr. R. Seetharaman once again thanked the Washington College management for his honorary degree and said he would always carry with him George Washington’s vision of a better future achieved through education, his respect for moral courage, and his ideals of leadership, character and service to others.
Along with Mr. R. Seetharaman Mr. James C. Rees IV and Mrs. Jane Rosenthal were also endowed with honorary doctorate. The Washington College has also honored American Presidents George Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry .S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower and George H.W. Bush; Nobel Laureates James Watson, C. N. Yang, Glenn Seaborg and Mario Molina; and historians David McCullough and Stephen Ambrose for their contributions to the Society.
