Property Professionals : International Fellowship Degrees

With a view to bringing in more professionalism into Indian real estate sector, London based RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) will be offering its standardised courses to both construction professionals and students.

RICS, a professional body that regulates property professionals and surveyors, is in the process of tying up with top colleges and universities in the country to offer its courses. The institution is already in talks in with NICMAR in Pune and IITs  pan India to start its first set of courses.
Sachin Sandhir

Mr. Sachin Sandhir, MD, RICS South Asia said, “Real estate today is a global business. The advent of multinational players and foreign private equity funds has spurred the need for professionals with internationally recognised qualifications” .

There is a demand for close to 22  lakh professionals in the real estate sector but the supply is only about 7 lakh per year.

With not many colleges too offering such specialized courses for construction industry, getting more universities to set up such programmes is the major hurdle of the institution.

'Mr. Sachin Sandhir also said, 'The Indian real estate sector is largely unorganized  and hence to drive in the value of a professional degree itself is a challenge. A decision about opening an India centre offering RICS courses will soon be taken. This may happen by the end of this year either in Mumbai or Delhi. We already started offering 6 online courses mainly targeted at working professionals. About 1,000 senior people have already earned their FRICS degrees in India”
