Allowing developers to raise funds through ECB (external commercial borrowings) will provide an incentive to develop more low-cost housing projects.
Shortage of good low cost housing projects has been a problem. ECBs will
lower the cost of funding for developers & hope new projects will grow in number.
With the National Housing Board (NHB) being allowed to raise up to Rs. 5,000 crore through the issue of tax-free bonds next year, housing finance companies can avail more funds at lower costs.
Enhancing provisions under the Rural Housing Fund from Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 4,000 crore and enhancing the limit of indirect finance under priority sector from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh are other proposals that will also benefit the sector.
