At an awards function organised by the BAI* ( Southern Centre), the Governor K. Rosaiah emphasised on the use of eco-friendly materials in construction projects. Stating that Chennai was in the forefront in adopting green concept in the construction industry, he said energy & natural resources are saved by adopting sustainability which also protected the occupants' health and reduced landfill waste.
K. Rosaiah also said, '' The growth of the economy was dependent to a very large extent on construction in every sector. After agriculture, construction was the second largest sector in providing employment and played a major role in the growth of the GDP. The construction industry, a core sector of economy, accounted for over 6% of the GDP"
Mr. B. Seeniah, President, National Highway Builders' Federation, installed the new office bearers of the BAI southern centre led by its Chairman Mr. S. Ayyanathan.
The Governor presented awards to builders under various categories.
Best residential complex – VGN; housing unit – Zenith Builder;
Best housing provider – Priya Promoters;
Best gated community – Isha Homes;
Best infrastructure provider – N. Ramalingam & Co.
Best mall provider – National Company,
Best commercial complex – Ganga Foundation,
Best innovative project – Sriram Construction,
Best publication on the industry – Master Builder and exemplary service to construction fraternity – R. Radhakrishnan.
