Chennai Corporation on recently sealed about 20 premises, including popular commercial complexes, in the commercial hub of the T. Nagar dealing with textiles and jewellery for allegedly constructing unauthorised portions.
Notice
Violations in T. Nagar included construction of parking lots, construction of 3rd, 4th & 5th floors. A notice was issued to the building owners earlier regarding the violations.
Describing an official status report on the steps taken to demolish unauthorised constructions in the T.Nagar as “eyewash,” the Madras High Court had on October 12, 2011, directed Chennai Corporation authorities concerned to file separate affidavits stating whether they had complied with its earlier directions.
The Madras High Court also asked the Chennai Corporation authorities to explain as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them besides directing the officials to file individual sworn affidavit by November 1, 2011
