Adjustable-Rate Mortgage (ARM) is a mortgage loan with the interest rate changes periodically adjusted based on an index which reflects the cost to the lender of borrowing on the credit markets. It is also called variable-rate mortgage. The loan may be offered at the bank's standard variable (floating) rate or base rate.
