According to a report by Cushman & Wakefield (C&W), Hosuing supply is estimated to fall short of demand by 13 lakh houses in seven major cities in India during the 5 five years (2011-2015)
The global property consultant firm Cushman & Wakefield has estimated a total demand of 23 lakh units of residential in the next 5 years, while the estimated supply in the same period is expected to be nearly 10 lakh houses, leaving a shortfall of over 13 lakh houses.

* The survey in the NCR (National Capital Region ), Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata.
* The housing demand supply scenario and the resulting gap is likely to reduce in the next 5 years.
* The upcoming supply needs to be priced judiciously along with appropriate location, infrastructure, connectivity, relevant features and amenities to ensure absorption.
* NCR is expected to record highest demand of over 7 lakh houses, followed by Mumbai and Bangalore with demands of 6.51 lakh houses and 2.87 lakh houses, respectively.
* Mid-range housing segment is expected to drive the maximum demand of 45%.
* Majority of the developers in the top 7 cities are concentrating on this segment, which would help reduce the supply - demand gap.
Mr. Akshay Kulkarni, Executive Director, C&W India, "Besides, the affordable housing segment is likely to register nearly 3 times more demand than supply and it will see the gap increasing during the next 5 years" said.
