The tourism climate in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Maharashtra, Goa and Delhi is the most conducive for hotels to operate in.
The top five states have been ranked by HVS, a hospitality consulting and services organisation, in the IInd edition of its India State Ranking Survey 2011.
Mr. Manav Thadani, Chairman, HVS South Asia. said “HVS hope this effort will inspire State Governments to do more for tourism. We also hope that the respective authorities would use this survey to identify areas in which they can help the States that have not performed well,”.
Highlights of HVS Survey
* According to the HVS rankings, Karnataka vastly improved its position, moving from 12th place in 2009 to 4th in the current 2011 edition.
* This is primarily due to 2 parameters: State expenditure on tourism and effectiveness of marketing campaign. Karnataka increased its budgetary provision for travel and tourism from 0.03% to 0.22 per cent." .
* Tamilnadu fell from first place in 2009 to 4th, even as it still continues to do well in most parameters, despite cutting its budgetary provisions for travel and tourism..
* Maharashtra, Delhi and Goa have scored high as these are hot commercial and leisure destinations and have the necessary infrastructure and tourist arrivals to support hotel operations.
* The survey covered 29 states, including Delhi, and omitted the Union Territories. It used 11 parameters to evaluate the impact of the environment on the hospitality industry.
