Affordable housing: TN Govt. plan for 311-acre satellite township near Chennai

The Tamil Nadu Government has announced plans to set up a 311-acre satellite township near Chennai to provide affordable housing.

The Chief Minister, Ms Jayalalithaa in a suo motu announcement in the Assembly said that the Rs 2,160 crore satellite township would come up at Thirumazhisai, to the west of Chennai on the highway to Bangalore. The project on the land belonging to the TNHB (Tamil Nadu Housing Board) will be developed once the approach road is established. Over 12.87 acres will have to be acquired for the approach road and the Government will take up the issue in consultation with the land owners.

 The township with 12,000 apartments will have the required physical and social infrastructure and amenities. The units will be affordable to a wide segment including the economically weaker sections, lower and middle income groups. The township will be distributed across Chembarambakkam, Kuthambakkam, Parvatharajapuram, Narasingapuram and Vellavedu villages.
